FanGirlNotFuriousJustDisappointed: The NFL

I am sitting here watching the Divisional round of the NFL games & I feel this need to express how meh I have personally found the 2025-2026 NFL season.

Just absolutely boring.

Yes, there were some games throughout the season that were actually captivating to witness. The season has been a masterclass in mediocrity. Now, I am not saying that these men are not world class athletes, because they are insanely talented at what they do. I am saying that the league has gotten complacent. When you rule the ratings, it’s only natural but if we are really honest with ourselves, the NFL is tragically stuck.

Does this mean I am going to stop watching? Nope. I am literally watching Patriots v Texans as I am typing this. I would just enjoy something to spice things up for this billion dollar league. Not just new stadiums & international games. Just a fundamental change that would actually change how we consume the sport. Think along lines of the pitch clock for the MLB or even the NBA In season tournament. Just something that engages us fans a little bit more.

I am just saying that when 9 teams are firing coaches either during the season or at the end of the season, we have to really take a look in the mirror. (There should have been 11 but thats neither here nor there but wasting prime Joe Burrow & Josh Allen should mean you have to answer to the Hague for your crimes)

So, like any normal fan & highly intelligent individual, I have come up with sure fire ways the NFL can shake things up so I care a little bit more & not put me to sleep on Sunday afternoons this Fall.

Kat’s NFL Master Plan

  • Limit the International Games & stop adding more weeks to the season

    • Lazy. This is just lazy engagement farming from the NFL & honestly, getting extremely excessive. There is no need for there to be as many games as there are. Give us 4 total. 2 in Europe & 2 in South America. There. That’s all you need. It’s not doing anything except make us get up early on a Sunday to watch mid football. Also, adding more games to the season doesn’t mean your on the field product is improving. You’re just opening up more possibility for your league stars to get injured on the awful turf fields that you force them to play on since your owners are cheap & won’t pay for grass.

  • Gardening Period

    • I am adopting this from my favorite sport - F1. Once an F1 team fires any of their top mechanical or management figures, they literally can not be hired for 6-12 months afterward. I honestly think that the NFL should start implementing this into their league standards for head coaches & GMs. It would cut down on the amount of turn over & even if it doesn’t it would allow for there to be more opportunities for the next man up. 9 teams. 9 teams fired head coaches this season & it is my personal belief that these 9 men should not be allowed into any NFL building for the next season. They should have to sit out. The same should go for GM’s. If they want to enter back into the NFL they should be required to sit out a season. Really, this is just to allow for more diversity amongst the coaching pool & allow for more people the opportunity to be at the helm of a team. Instead of the same men, trying the same things, every season just with a different team.

  • Relegation

    • I want there to be consequences for being god awful & making fans sit through terrible football for 18 weeks. The EPL has it right with relegation. With the 32 teams in the league & only 14 being eligible for playoffs, there is so much missed opportunity for extra football. Let’s make the next 14 eligible for some secondary league championship trophy. Let’s create 2 tiers of the NFL. Those who end up in the top 16 play for the Super Bowl, the second set of 16 play for another championship trophy but it’s not the Super Bowl. The relegation & ability to be promoted to the Super Bowl contention would make these games mean so much more. Every week would be life or death & I would have the time of my life with every call or non call from the refs. Though, now that I think about it, there are some teams where their fans would probably burn their stadiums down like that one Finnish soccer team, if they get relegated. Or, force the bottom 2 teams to only play in Europe for the following season. They literally get kicked off the island.

I just expect more from the NFL & this season has been wickedly disappointing. Granted, my NFL fandom is up for grabs. The Jets this season didn’t speak to me that made me feel confident in being a fan of this organization moving forward. There didn’t seem to be a vision for the future with this organization. So, back to the wheel of fandom to determine my 2026 fandom.

Now, if you happen to be from the NFL & reading this, please let me know if you need me to be in the room to officially pitch these because there has to be a solution to this. It’s not the players fault. Im not mad, just wickedly disappointed & disengaged.

Well guys, hopefully you are enjoying your NFL divisional round Sunday. & that you found the NFL season more interesting than I did. If you didn’t, let me know how you would change things up. They need all the help they can get.

Talk soon.
