I’m in Love! : August

August was a month that felt like it was eternal some days & then others it really went like this, Wake up & boom. time for bed. Considering the chaos that was July, I did welcome the calmness of August. I was able to visit a lot of my favorite places around the city leisurely & really just touch grass (concrete) before all of my sports were back & dictating my weekend schedule.

I did have such an amazing time with my one weekend hosting this month. Josh, Riri, Zeppe, & Brittney paid me a visit which was such an amazing weekend. This was a highlight because I was finally able to take my parents to the Met. It was their first time visiting & it was a masterclass in patience by me because they are fans of renaissance art, whereas, I would rather watch paint dry on walls and write a thesis about it than spend more than 10 minutes in that wing. Anyway. That was a lovely weekend for me.

This month though, did just make me want Fall. I want the leaves to be changing color, sweaters/sweatshirt weather, & obviously all my sports on my tv at once. But, for the last full month of summer. August wasn’t too bad.

Here are all of things that made me actually enjoy a summer month.

Food & Drink

  • Iced Matcha with Oat milk & honey

  • A Sweet Treat

Listen, I am someone who needs some source of sugar or caffeine on a daily basis. I do not care if it’s not good for me. Life is fleeting & caffeine just makes it so much better. Even better, getting caffeine & a sweet treat at the same time.

This month, my go to way to make matcha or have it made for me is with honey as the sweetener. It really is the best way to me because its not overly sweet but gives just! enough to make it not taste like grass water :)

Also, I am not claiming to be queen of the sweet treat but it is something I am known to indulge in. This month, as a way to reward myself for existing, I would stop in get myself a sweet treat. My favorite one: getting a cannolo (singluar of cannoli pls argue with the wall or something) from my favorite cafe downtown during my lunch hour at work. Ugh. Chefs kiss.

Entertainment

  • 1984 by George Orwell

  • Matter of Time

    • Silver Lining, Too Little, Too Late, & Clean Air

  • Olivia Dean

  • Schitts Creek

  • She’s All That

  • Hard Knocks

  • Teen Titans

  • The Summer I Turned Pretty

  • Man’s Best Friend

    • Tears & Go Go Juice

  • Kansas Anymore

I was heavy in my TV & music grind this month, which is also why I was only able to complete one book but, the book was 1984. I can not emphasize how highly I recommend this book. I don’t think I have read it since high school & it was a book that was full of amazing world building & vivid details. Also, the themes of the story still hold up which I think is something that can be very difficult considering how fast I think the culture shifts now. I loved every second of it & I can’t wait to start Julia this week.

For my television viewing this month, I began a rewatch of Schitts Creek. It is of those shows where no matter how much I watch, it will always be so laugh out loud funny. Also, I began a rewatch of one of my all time comfort shows, Teen Titans. I truly just love it so much & one of the shows that I actually don’t pick up my phone during unless I’m texting commentary to people.

Okay, if you are living under a rock, or maybe, you just woke up from a coma. The Summer I Turned Pretty has been on this month. I did boycott most of the first few episodes because I can’t stand that character (iykyk) But, since the Christmas flashback episode, I have been sat for every minute. Waiting. Plotting. Watching as his screen time dwindled & for this past weeks episode. Y’all. We have never been so up. Team Conrad. That’s all.

Hard Knocks is my lifeline towards the end of summer. It reminds me of what’s to come. My most favorite season & that football is going to be back! So, tuning in every Tuesday at 9 pm is the least I can do to boost my serotonin levels.

So, I feel like I may have discussed this on the blog before but I am terrible when it comes to movies. I can’t ever pick one out & when I do, if I am at home or around people I am comfortable with - I will just yap away. Asking questions, making sides comments, the whole 9 yards. This month, I was recommended a movie (with the hopes of it making the blog). She’s All That was actually able to make me feel all the emotions & was the perfect 90’s romcom. As someone who lives & dies by 10 Things I Hate About You, I may have to add this to my rotation. Fantastic recommendation Kyle.

Finally, music. We were blessed this month as pop girlies. Truly, I have been loving life. My weekly minutes listened are actually insane. Two of my favorite artists dropped albums & another one dropped a new single.

Laufey put out Matter of Time which from start to finish was a masterpiece with a true vision. I love everything she does & I need to be at her concert next month. My favorites off of her album were: Silver Lining, Too Little, Too Late & Clean Air.

Miss Sabrina Carpenter released an album on Friday & it has me so happy I came home this weekend because driving in my car listening to new albums is my favorite way to consume music. My favorites that have me dancing in the car at stop lights & screaming the lyrics are Tears & Go Go Juice. I must be at her concert at MSG at the end of the month with Olivia Dean as the opener.

Okay, my fangirl WBOTM is Role Model but really his album Kansas Anymore. Just as a whole. It is just as a complete work has been on rotation this month. At least once a day I would go to the album, hit shuffle, & let it play. Mr. R. Model, thank you for this.

Misc.

  • Bookstores

  • Fangirl Saturday

Bookstores are just where I go when I’m bored or if I need to just get out of my house or when I am feeling a bit of an anxiety moment coming on. I went to so many this month for all sorts of reason but I managed to only buy 3 new books. Which for me, is quite impressive.

Fangirl Saturdays are back! I loved having them back. It made my heart so happy. Fangirl Saturday, for those unfamiliar, are Saturdays in the Fall when my days are just all day sports. The first one started with F1 Qualifying, straight into Premier League, & having college football the rest of the day. Some Saturdays it’s one of these or some days a mix. But, they are something that make me happy. Just sitting in comfy clothes, watching the teams I love to follow. Ugh. Sitting & thinking about it just gets me excited.

Well, thats all for August. September will be a bit quieter I think. Only one visit is on the books & I have already told my Mom I will be the worst host & then I was immediately yelled at. So, we shall see how that goes. Maybe you’ll even get a blog out of it. Other than that, it should be relatively lowkey.

Send recommendations of all kinds for me to look into this month please!

Wishing you all a majestic September & talk soon.
