Miami GP Weekend Recap
Preweekend thoughts:
Are we sure all of the drivers are going to make it to the race?
This started out about potentially drivers being stuck in Spain and Portugal but ended up relating to Max (congrats)
Track specs:
57 laps
Circuit length: 5.412 km
3 DRS zones
19 turns
Overall Thoughts:
I hate that teams get to America and forget how to act. This sport and brands are trying to appeal to the American audience and that is fine and I understand wanting to expand the market in this ever globalization of sports. But what I can not stand is brands and sports underestimating their fans. I think my main issue with the increase in American races is the amount of ingenuine celebrity partnerships and fanfare is happening around the weekend.
Companies are spending so much money to host events and fly celebrity personalities out to Miami or Vegas now even though Austin has had a long standing fixture in the F1 calendar. But as a fan of the sport, I actually hate seeing these random celebrities showing up to race weekends and not knowing what’s going on and showing up for pictures. That’s fine, again, I understand why they are doing it. But I know as a fan and someone with the background I have educationally, sitting and watching partnerships and activations that make no sense makes me angry. I think it would be far more effective for these American brands that are wanting to hold events at these Grand Prix's to not invite influencers but rather fans or small F1 internet personalities. This would be far more effective in building a relationship with the fanbases. Established fans are far more profitable than a new one. The influencers are going to show up to these weekends, post their Instagram or tiktok, cash the check and never again tune into a grand prix. By inviting fans or internet personalities within the F1 space, you are further building a relationship and trust with the fans of the sport and that consistency and trust will establish you within the space. Particularly amongst the growing female fanbases of the sport.
So, my suggestion to F1 is to cut back on Americanizing your sport and rather focus on the core values and proceed like normal and the rest will come in time.
On such an opposite note: Racing Bulls - literally no notes I just wanted to give y’all your flowers- no matter much I hate Miami GP weekend I will never hate you and the content you serve
But also, race day being May 4th, may the fourth be with you, landos number being 4 & his name being inspired by a Star Wars character…..walk with me……
Funniest thing about all the special liveries and helmets this weekend is Leah saying that Ferrari drivers look like they work at Dairy Queen & shes not wrong (she never is)
Sprint Qualifying
Though Sprint weekends make me so tired and stressed, I am glad that we have action consistently throughout the weekend but I am sure that the rookies wish that we have more practice sessions since none of them have ever driven here.
This sprint qualifying really can be summarized as the Tale of Two Rookies. On one end of the spectrum we had Kimi Antonelli put together a flawless lap to put him self on pole for the sprint race. While it may be just me, I think we need to start giving Mercedes the hype they deserve. In the off season they were able to build a solid, competitive car. I just need the media to shift their focus from Ferrari not having the car we thought they were going to have to the fact that Mercedes does.
On the other end of the rookie spectrum is Jack Doohan. He had a rather upsetting yet eventful sprint qualifying. He was not holding his punches when it came to expressing his frustrations over team radio. Mainly his issues with team orders and how he believes that they screwed him over. The energy that he was giving was, “I am going to burn this organization from the inside.” At this point, I believe a lot of people would love to see Alpine burn.
Sprint Race
Live thoughts and reactions of the Sprint
Charles isn’t even on the grid literally wtf
For this sprint I’m a merc fan
“Visibility will be appaling” oh okay so what if I crash out on 5th ave
Red flag 🫶🏼
Worst visibility and yet we renewed this track until 2041! Amazing
Martin just casually mentioning breaking a Marshall’s leg like okay
Here is the thing: no one prepared Kimi for having both mclarens and max directly behind him
Sprints sometimes feel longer than a normal race
Someone is going to pit those tires are going to start degrading like crazy

Qualifying
Honestly, I know it’s a Barstool thing but I do need someone to make me a Saturdays are for the boys themed F1 tshirt maybe even a Sunday are for the boys. Or even better, Barstool just hire me as your F1 person and we can create this as merch. Okay? Please & thank you.
Qualifying was pleasantly uneventful, especially after the sprint race that we had earlier, I kind of needed this to be tame. Though, to me, when a qualifying is quiet it gets me worried about the race.
What I will say is, Aston Martin do something. I need the team to decide they care. I simply do not understand how they just seem okay with being meh. They are a team that does nothing overly well and it’s starting to annoy me. If you are going to put out a meh car at least give your socials some personality. I want to like you, but I just see the whole organization as meh.
One of my highlights from this session was seeing that Williams drivers were sitting at 2 & 3 on the grid behind the McLarens in the straight line speeds. To me? That’s camp. Kind of love the energy this team has been bringing on and off the track this season. I may have to become a Williams girl now for real.
