June is for Lovers

June was quite a busy month & one that I am already looking back on fondly. Since being home there has not been a month I have loved more than June which is shocking for me to say because I am not a fan of Summer, at all. After spending so much of May not feeling myself, June was one that helped me feel #soback & towards the end of the month I began to find my footing once again. Hopefully, it sticks.

There was so much that I found this month that I loved so deeply & have not shut up to those in my life about, much of which is because they refuse to listen to my recommendations so I have to be repetitive. This entire blog every month is just for me to have written proof I have recommended things to them before they discover it.

As I am writing this by the way, my mother called me & she is pitching me an entire month of blogs dedicated to her.

Okay, now let us get to the good stuff.

Food & Drink

  • DQ Fruity Pebbles Milkshake

I am going to be so real with you all. I am addicted to this milkshake. It is my most favorite new flavor put out by an ice cream company in a long time. It tastes like you are drinking a bowl of Fruity Pebbles & it is such a magical experience. Fairly confident I went to DQ several times in a row last week to get it. I understand how sacred a staple ice cream order is, trust me, I don’t think I have changed my order since I was about 12 years old. But, if you’re wanting to have a fun moment & looking to branch out from your staple ice cream order, I can not recommend this enough.

Television

  • Not Suitable for Work

  • House of the Dragon

  • World Cup

If Mindy Kaling is coming out with a show, I am sat. She rarely disappoints me & Not Suitable for Work is one of her best. It is a modern miracle she has made me like & enjoy a portrayal of a finance bro in his early 20’s, but if anyone could, it’s her. This show taking place in NYC following 5 friends on different careers paths & their intertwining stories is so delicious. The humor of it all is laugh out loud funny in a way that day to day of trying to navigate life & the ridiculous nature that is living as a 20 something in NYC. I need everyone to watch this show immediately. I have so much to discuss. Unfortunately, Josh & AJ are end game which is horrible for my client Davis whom I love & adore. I just want to give him a hug.

House of the Dragon is back which means my Sundays at 9 pm are booked and busy. I love the war crimes that are committed by my King consort Daemon & I support every wrong he & Rhaenyra commit. Episode 2 of the show was one of the best of the entire series, it made me laugh, cry, & feel the rage of a thousand suns. All the makings of excellent television. Emma Darcy deserves an Emmy for the first 15 minutes of that episode alone. Everyone tune in NOW.

Finally, FINALLY! World Cup Soccer/Football is BACK. I love this tournament more than any other major sporting event put on. The amount of content that we get out of the tourists coming to the U.S. alone is worth it. Having this much soccer to consume is the highlight of my summer honestly, without it, this summer wouldn’t have a certain level of whimsy. There is so much happening at any given day in this tournament that it would require me to take off of work & dedicate my life to watching every game to be able to write a blog or blogs that do this tournament justice.

Music

  • you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love by Olivia Rodrigo

  • Rein Me In by Sam Fender ft. Olivia Dean

  • Something, Somehow, Someday by ROLE MODEL

I have loved the collaboration of Olivia Dean & Sam Fender on this song since the moment it came out. Rein Me In is a song that makes me want to drive with my windows down screaming the words. It is the perfect song for Summer & I owe them so much for their contributions to my serotonin levels. They are much like Ariana Grande and the Weeknd to me - they need to collaborate on one song a year because their voices were made to be together forever.

Role Model is such a tease. He releases a single for his upcoming album that I love and adore, & then radio silence. Mr. Pillsbury if you’re reading this, RELEASE ANOTHER SONG. NOW. OR ELSE. But, while I sit & wait patiently for another song or the album itself, I have been listening to a lot of his other songs. One that has been on heavy repeat for me is Something, Somehow, Someday. It is an amazing song & one of my favorites off that album.

Our queen is back. ORod made her much needed reappearance into the music space (not that she left but you know what I mean). I missed her so deeply & I have been waiting for this moment for years. YEARS! you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is one of my favorite albums that have been put out this year. It is a masterclass in storytelling & has so many amazing songs. Top off of the album is drop dead. Mainly because it is the anthem that sophomore/ junior year of HS Kat needed. It’s one of those songs that would have defined that specific period & maybe a brief period after that. Some of my other favorites off of the album are: stupid song, expectations, my way, & the cure. She is a master at work & I am so glad that I own it on vinyl.

Misc.

  • 3rd Spaces

Here I am again waxing poetic like an old person about the importance of the lost art of 3rd spaces. First it was the importance of physical media & now I am lecturing on 3rd spaces.

For those unfamiliar, 3rd spaces are just community spaces that you go to that are not your home or work. It can be the coffee shop, the library, a bookstore, etc. A space you can go by yourself to relax or meet with friends. In New York my 3rd space was the Met. It was my weekly visit to regulate my nervous system. I would wander through the galleries listening to music & looking at the most beautiful paintings in the world. Now that I am back in Cleveland, I have been exploring a lot of new 3rd spaces. The local library & the coffee shops nearby mainly but I think that is why people romanticize cities like New York & Europe. They are masters of the 3rd space. I would love to have my own bookstore one day that people consider their 3rd space. I need Cleveland suburbs to create more 3rd spaces for me to explore. Nothing would make my heart happier.
