I’m in Love!: September

General Recap

September definitely happened. It was for sure quite a tumultuous month for me & I am quite glad it came to a close in a peaceful way. I came down with a case of writers block, which as a blogger & someone who is trying to move more into the writing space, was something that left me uneasy. But, I was able to work through it & have been feeling reinvigorated in the space.

I spent some time at home at the end of last month & the beginning of this month which always makes a girl feel rejuvenated. Also, I did end up hosting again this month. It was such a great weekend & had an amazing time exploring literally every part of the city. I think I am starting to get the hang of the hosting thing so, if you have been a guest of the KB&B please leave a positive review on yelp or something.

During all of these ups & downs & the crazy weather whiplash, I definitely did find different things that I clung to as a way find some inspiration & just make me happy on the day to day.

Here are all the things that made me lalalala love September.

Food & Drink

  • Skittles

  • Golden Oreos

Quite literally my life line this month. I have a massive sweet tooth, I will admit that. No shame in my dessert game. I love candy so much. This month my candy of choice was skittles. It started because I bought a halloween candy bag from Target for my desk & it’s non-chocolate candy of choice was skittles. While at work one day, I was feeling snacky & ate one of the little packs, thus beginning my skittles fixation. I went to Target during lunch last week & bought a family size bag of Skittles & a bag of the Sour Punch Bites (my favorite candy of all time).

Okay. Golden Oreos. The love of my life. I would walk around in high school with these going from class to class. I love them so much. I prefer these to regular oreos & if you haven’t tried them you are missing out. I would have these after dinner as my dessert. If Oreo ever needs a golden oreo ambassador, I will make sure it’s me. I think I went through a family size pack a week. Am I proud of that? No, but I wouldn’t change a thing because I love them so much.

Entertainment

  • The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City

  • The Art of Loving by Olivia Dean

    • So Easy (To Fall In Love)

    • Baby Steps

    • Something InBetween

  • Criterion Closet Videos

  • NFL

  • Formula One

  • Dancing with the Stars

Y’all. I can not emphasize the absolute cinema that is the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is. I can not believe no one in my life has recommended this show to me. Every episode is just a twist and turn into the most absurd, yet entertainingly plausible storyline. There isn’t that layer of “oh this seems staged” over every storyline that some of the other franchises have. I am watching an episode right now during halftime while I type this out. I think everyone who enjoys reality television needs to sit down and tune in because truly this will become your new favorite. I am almost done with season 5 so that way I can hopefully catch up to real time before season 6 ends. Ugh. I love them.

While in the television conversation, I have gotten into Dancing with the Stars. I have never tuned before but as we all know, I love appointment television. Give me a quality show that releases once a week? I am sat. I miss having that, the sitting down at a certain time & watching a show live & texting friends or looking at socials to see everyone else's reactions. Every Tuesday for me was Pretty Little Liars night & I would go into school the next day and talk about everything that happened. Guys, if you have any connection to a network executive, plead with them to bring back appointment tv. Anyway, I love this season & I am getting very into it. It reminds me of So You Think You Can Dance & I am enjoying watching the dancers evolve each week.

So, as a little unwind & respite in my day, I have been gravitating toward the Criterion Closet videos. For those who don’t know, they are videos of celebrities, mainly actors, selecting their favorite movies from the Criterion collection. I love listening to them talk about why they are drawn to the movie. The reasons they give is such a wide range, it could be the dialogue, the cinematography, the score, etc. I think I just love listening to people talk about things they love. I have 0 background or knowledge of film but I love these videos so much.

My favorite female artist Ms. Olivia Dean released her 2nd album this month. It is everything I could’ve wanted & more. The Art of Loving has so many songs that easily get stuck in your head & a song that takes you through, in my opinion, different kinds of shapes & dynamics love can take. My repeats have been So Easy (To Fall In Love), Baby Steps, & Something InBetween.

Alright, football season? BACK. NFL is finally gracing us with it’s presence & I have enjoyed being able to watch every game again. This season, I am a Jets fan because of a promise I made to my friend. Maybe, I should do a social media series about my quest to find a new NFL team to root for. A

ALSO. F1? BACK. Summer break is always always the longest month of the year but September arrived & I was finally able to watch my 20 favorite foreign men race each other in foreign countries again. All is right in the world.

Misc.

  • Museums

  • Physical Media

Maybe it’s just me but I have been wanting more physical media in my life. I already am loyal to buying physical copies of books but I have found myself wanting more of that physicality in the media I consume. I had a bit of a breakdown & felt very overwhelmed this month about how there is just too much with the online presence & streaming & everything that comes with that. So, I went ahead and starting buying DVD’s from the thrift store. I miss being able to sit down & pop the movie in & have no other real distractions. Do I have a DVD player? Nope. Santa, if you’re reading this. I want a DVD player. But anyway, I am on this journey of trying to get out of this relying on digital media for enjoyment. I think I am just craving a slower pace out of life.

I freaking love a museum. Of any kind. Art museums are probably ones that I frequent the most but I don’t discriminate. I love going to all types of museums. Natural History, Science, Air & Space, History, etc. If you ever need a buddy to go to a museum with you, I am volunteering. Museums are magical spaces to me. They make learning about new things accessible to everyone. Growing up my Papa took me to the Abraham Lincoln exhibit that the Cleveland History Center because I am a massive Civil War nerd. (My dream vacation when I was younger was to Gettysburg) We walked around the special exhibit, the other areas of the museum, which included the Automotive museum. It was another world to me. Side note, being able to intern at the CHC was my most favorite experience & felt very circle to me.

This month, I discovered the Frick Museum in NYC. It had been closed for a while & recently reopened to the public. So, one Saturday during my excursion to the East side, I decided to pop in. I am glad that I did. It is, what I would consider, an art museum. It is located in a glided age mansion owned by Henry Clay Frick. The way the art is presented & the layout of the house feels largely unchanged. There is a specific energy with how the art is displayed that can only be achieved in a preserved space like this one. Walking around you’re looking at this breathtaking art but then you remember you’re in a space that someone actually lived in & it adds to the experience. You aren’t allowed to take pictures in any of the gallery spaces but take my word for it. Mystifying.

Well, that’s all folks. September has come & gone but we are officially entering my favorite time of year. October - January is the most magical time of year. It is a time where I find the most beautiful moments of nostalgia but the weather helps too. I am quite excited for October.

Have such a glorious week.

Talk soon.
